Armor of God

If you were going to war, you would want to bring all the best equipment. In ancient times, this equipment would look like a sword and armor for the different parts of your body. But imagine you were fighting something you couldn't see, touch, or hear. You knew it was there because you could see what it does (much like how you know the wind is there because it blows leaves around), but you also knew a real sword wouldn't do anything against it. You would want special tools to fight such a thing!

Significance

Every follower of Jesus has a real spiritual enemy named Satan who is constantly trying to separate us from God. But God has not left us defenseless - he has given us spiritual weapons to fight a spiritual enemy. We call some of these weapons the armor of God and they include the Helmet of Salvation, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Shield of Faith, the Shoes of Readiness of the Gospel of Peace, the Belt of Truth, and the Sword of the Spirit. God clothes His followers with these tools so they can overcome Satan and his demons.

Application

Try having a trusted adult read Ephesians 6:10-20 from the bible. When he or she mentions a specific armor of God, pretend to put it on your body and think about how it might protect your spirit and give you the tools you need to defeat our enemy!

God, I know I have a spiritual enemy, but I also know you've given me spiritual weapons. Please put this armor on my spirit every day and teach me how to wield the sword of the Spirit so I can advance your kingdom in the Earth.
