Kingdom Builders

Have you ever built something with blocks? One block by itself may not look like much, but when you start putting blocks together, something bigger begins to take shape.
The Bible tells us that God’s people are a lot like that. Jesus didn’t design us to follow Him all by ourselves. When we belong to Jesus, we become part of something much bigger than ourselves—the Body of Christ.
“Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” — 1 Corinthians 12:27 NKJV
A body has lots of different parts. A hand doesn’t do the same job as a foot. An eye doesn’t do the same job as an ear. They are different, but every part matters.
God made His Church the same way. You don’t have to look like someone else, be good at what they are good at, or have the same gifts they have. God has given you something you can use to strengthen His people.
The Bible tells us, “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV
Edify is a big Bible word with a really simple meaning: TO BUILD UP.

Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV

Significance

Think about those building blocks again. One block at a time can make something bigger and stronger. Our words and actions can do the same thing for another person.
When you encourage someone who wants to give up, you’re building them up.

When you pray for a friend, help someone who is struggling, celebrate someone else’s success, forgive, serve, or speak God’s truth in love—you’re building them up.
And when every person uses what God has given them to strengthen someone else, the whole Body gets stronger.

Application

Grab a set of building blocks. Each time your child names a way they can build someone up, add another block to the structure.
Encourage them. — Add a block.
Pray for them. — Add a block.
Help them. — Add a block.
Tell them something you appreciate about them. — Add a block.
Remind them of something God says is true. — Add a block.
Celebrate something they did well. — Add a block.
Use one of your gifts to serve them. — Add a block.
Keep building until you have created something together. Then explain that, just like each block helped make the structure stronger, God can use each of us to strengthen the Body of Christ.
Now choose one real person your child can intentionally build up today. They could make a card, send an encouraging message, pray for them, help them with something, or simply tell them something kind and true.

GUIDED PRAYER

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for making me part of Your Body. Thank You for giving each of us different gifts and a special part to play.
Help me notice when someone around me needs to be built up. Teach me to use my words to encourage, my hands to help, my gifts to serve, and my heart to love.
When I am tempted to compare or compete, remind me that we are on the same team. Use me to make Your people stronger and to help build Your Kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
